In the Upper School the GISW offers a challenging, advanced science curriculum: students from grades 7 to 12 complete between two and four lessons per week in each subject of mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology. (We will be adding coursework in computer science to the curriculum when its development is complete).
An important new “international school” advantage is that Biology teaching is now bilingual, integrating spoken and written English, starting in 7th grade.
All science courses taught in grades 11 and 12 are Advanced Placement (AP) certified by the American College Board.
Students in 8th and 9th grade are able to broaden their science education by choosing a combination science laboratory – computer course as an elective.
In 4th grade students gain relevant, real-world, hands-on experience in the natural sciences, taught by a team consisting of both their elementary school teacher and an upper school science teacher.
In 5th and 6th grade, natural science, a STEM/MINT subject, proceeds with 3 lessons per week plus an elective called “FuF“, an enrichment course in which STEM/MINT methodologies of instruction (problem/project/challenge-based learning) introduce the students to innovative and stimulating scientific work.
